Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ADA serum test used for?
ADA measures adenosine deaminase enzyme activity in blood. Elevated levels help diagnose tuberculosis (especially pleural TB), certain lymphomas, and immune deficiencies.
Is fasting required for ADA test?
No, fasting is not required. The test can be performed on a non-fasting sample.
What causes high ADA levels?
High ADA is commonly seen in tuberculosis infections, particularly pleural and peritoneal TB. It may also be elevated in lymphoproliferative disorders, autoimmune diseases, and liver conditions.
How is the result interpreted?
Results are interpreted by a pathologist against age-specific reference ranges. Higher ADA levels (>40-45 IU/L) strongly suggest tubercular etiology in appropriate clinical contexts.
How is the sample collected?
Blood is drawn from a vein in the arm into a plain or gel separator tube. Approximately 1-2 mL of serum is required.
When will I receive my report?
Reports are typically available within 24 hours and can be accessed via www.drpatholab.in or requested via WhatsApp/Email.
