Methodology
Immunochromatography
This test is based on the principle of Immunochromatography, also known as a lateral flow immunoassay. It is a qualitative, rapid diagnostic technique that provides a visual result. The test procedure involves:
* Sample Application: A small volume of the patient's serum is applied to the sample pad of a test cassette.
* Antibody Migration: The serum travels along a nitrocellulose membrane by capillary action.
* Antigen-Antibody Reaction: The membrane is coated with specific antigens of Salmonella typhi. If the patient's serum contains anti-typhoid IgM and/or IgG antibodies, they will bind to these antigens.
* Detection: The antibodies are then captured by a specific detection system, resulting in the appearance of a distinct colored band on the test strip. The presence of separate bands for IgM and IgG allows for a differentiated diagnosis of the infection phase.
Sample Required
SERUM (1ML)
* Preferred Sample: A minimum of 1 mL of serum is required.
* Collection: A blood sample should be collected in a Red-top or Gold-top (SST) tube. The blood is then allowed to clot, and the serum is separated from the cellular components by centrifugation.
Preparation
* No Fasting Required: The test does not require any specific dietary restrictions, and you do not need to fast before the blood collection. * Patient History: Informing your doctor about your symptom... Read more
