Methodology
Immunochromatography
The test is performed using the Immunochromatography method, often referred to as a rapid test. This technique is based on a simple principle:
* Antigen-Antibody Reaction: The stool sample is processed to extract calprotectin (the antigen). This is then allowed to move along a test strip.
* Detection: The strip contains immobilized antibodies specific to calprotectin. If calprotectin is present in the sample, it binds to these antibodies, producing a visible colored line or signal. The intensity of this signal can be measured to provide a quantitative or semi-quantitative result.
This method is known for its speed, ease of use, and reliability in a clinical laboratory setting.
Sample Required
STOOL sample: A small, pea-sized portion of a freshly passed stool is collected in a sterile, leak-proof container provided by the laboratory. Proper collection is essential to ensure the accuracy of the results.
Preparation
#1) Stool Collection Kit: A sterile, provided container with a designated spoon or scoop should be used for collection. #2) Fresh Sample: The stool sample should be collected as a fresh sample. It is ... Read more
