Methodology
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
The test is performed using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methodology. This is an advanced molecular technique that works by amplifying a specific segment of the Parvovirus B19 DNA, creating millions of copies. This amplification process allows for the detection of even minute quantities of viral genetic material, making the test extremely sensitive and specific. A qualitative PCR test reports a simple "Detected" (Positive) or "Not Detected" (Negative) result, indicating the presence or absence of the viral DNA in the sample.
Sample Required
3ML WB EDTA/ CSF 3ML
* 3ML WB EDTA: The primary sample for detecting active viral infection (viremia). Whole Blood (WB) collected in an EDTA tube is the preferred specimen.
* CSF 3ML: A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample may be used to investigate rare neurological complications associated with Parvovirus B19 infection.
Preparation
#1) Sample Collection: A blood sample must be drawn by a trained phlebotomist into an EDTA (purple-top) tube. #2) CSF Collection: If a CSF sample is required, it must be collected by a qualified medic... Read more
