Methodology
RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction)
RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a molecular diagnostic technique used to detect and amplify specific RNA sequences. In the context of BCR/ABL (CML) Major (p210), RT-PCR works by first converting the messenger RNA (mRNA) of the fusion gene into complementary DNA (cDNA) using reverse transcriptase. This cDNA is then amplified using the standard PCR process. This method allows for the highly sensitive and specific qualitative detection of the BCR/ABL fusion gene, which is a hallmark genetic abnormality in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). The qualitative aspect means it determines the presence or absence of the fusion gene.
Sample Required
WB/BMA EDTA: Whole Blood (WB) or Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA) in EDTA Vacutainer
(A sample of whole blood or bone marrow aspirate collected in an EDTA vacutainer is required. EDTA acts as an anticoagulant to preserve the sample for RNA extraction.)
Preparation
No special preparation is typically required for this test. However, please adhere to the following: * No Fasting Required: Fasting is not necessary for this blood or bone marrow sample collection. * ... Read more
